What size drill should I use to make the mount screw hole for a guitar tuner?

Hipshot guitar tuning machines are mounted with a #3 wood screw. 

According to pilot screw guide charts, you should use a 5/64" straight drill bit for hard woods and a 1/16" straight drill bit for soft woods.
